Clemencic wurde 1928 in Wien geboren und studierte zunächst Philosophie und Musikwissenschaft in Paris und Wien. Gleichzeitig betrieb er Musikstudien - Blockflöte, Cembalo und historische Aufführungspraxis in Wien, Holland und Berlin, sowie Musiktheorie und Komposition in Wien. Clemencic konzertiert mit seinem Ensemble weltweit und erhielt für seine zahlreichen CD-Einspielungen internationale Preise wie Edison, Grand Prix du Disque, Diapason d'Or, Prix Cecilia.

René Clemencic is a composer, conductor, harpsichordist, recorder and clavichord virtuoso, musicologist, the founder and leader of one of the most renowned early music groups, the Clemencic Consort. Clemencic was born in Vienna in 1928. First of all he studied philosophy and musicology in Paris and Vienna. During this time he also studied the recorder, harpsichord and early music performance practice in Vienna, Holland and Berlin; music theory and composition in Vienna. Clemencic and his Consort give concerts all over the world and have won international awards e.g. Edison, Grand Prix du Disque, Diapason d'Or, Prix Cecilia, for their numerous recordings.
